Black & Blue: Discussing The Relationship Between BPD & Communities Of Color

[Via Voices of Liberation] In the wake of yet another killing of a young Black man by Police, this time in St. Louis, we invite you to join us for a Community Town Hall Meeting on police and community relations right here in Boston where BPD have shot and killed more than 20 people in the last 20 years, all of whom were Black Latino or Cape Verdean. Where a recent study entitled Black, Brown and Targeted by the ACLU of Massachusetts found that blacks made up 63% of the number of stop-and-frisks while only being 25% of the city’s population. Via Blackstonian: Black & Blue: Discussing The Relationship Between BPD & Communities Of Color DISCUSSING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BPD AND COMMUNITIES OF COLOR Police, Clergy and Citizens alike have all identified a disconnect and mistrust between the BPD and communities of color which prevents them from providing us the service we want and deserve. Join us as we explore the root causes of the disconnect and offer solutions for the BPD to serve & protect our community. – Unsolved Homicides – Police Shooting/Killing Civilians – Police Brutality – Diversity in BPD – Stop & Frisk October 11, 2014 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Dudley Branch of the Boston Public Library 65 Warren St, Boston, Massachusetts 02119 RSVP Via Facebook Stop and Frisk Boston – Ivan’s Story

Art. Anger. Awareness. Jacob Leidof at JP Open Studios 2014 – Hosted by Lucy Parsons Center

Art. Anger Awareness. Artwork by Jacob Leidolf Jamaica Plain Open Studios 2014 Saturday 9/20 -Sunday 9/21 11AM – 6PM Lucy Parsons Center 358A Centre St. Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 RSVP via Facebook My art is often a reaction to and reflection of the world around me, good bad and ugly. Like so many I have been outraged and horrified by events in recent history locally nationally and globally, finding focus, purpose and power in making art that raises awareness and starts conversations about issues that are far too often marginalized and misunderstood: Gun violence and the loss of young lives, Police brutality, the murder of civilians and the role of police in the society, conflicts and casualties, systems of oppression. These are some of the things I try to make sense of or speak on with my work. Join me at the Lucy Parsons Center Bookstore in Hyde Square JP for Jamaica Plain Open Studios 2014. I will be showing work, giving out stickers, (maybe even doing a demo) and hanging out talking about art or whatever else. Please peruse the selection of radical reading material LPC has to offer as well. RSVP via Facebook www.jacobleidolf.com www.jpopenstudios.com
